Hangzhou's cultural and tourism industry is booming in 2024: cultural added value exceeds 340 billion yuan, inbound tourists double

On March 21st, the Hangzhou Municipal Bureau of Statistics and the Hangzhou Investigation Team of the National Bureau of Statistics released the 2024 Hangzhou National Economic and Social Development Statistical Bulletin. Hangzhou's GDP will reach 2186 billion yuan in 2024, with the tertiary industry accounting for 73%. Among them, the highlights of Hangzhou's cultural and tourism data in 2024 are as follows:

Value added: In 2024, the added value of Hangzhou's cultural and related industries reached 344.8 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 6.5%.

Cultural facilities: At the end of the year, the city had 16 cultural centers (including provincial), 16 public libraries (including provincial), 87 registered museums, and 140 recognized rural (community) museums. There are 48 national key cultural relics protection units, 5 representative works of human intangible cultural heritage, and 48 representative projects of national intangible cultural heritage.

Film and television production: Shoot 6 TV dramas with a total of 207 episodes throughout the year. There are 3.21 million registered cable TV users.

Tourism data

Inbound tourism: In 2024, Hangzhou received 1.17 million overnight visitors, a year-on-year increase of 107.8%; The foreign exchange revenue from tourism reached 830 million US dollars, a year-on-year increase of 138.2%.

Tourism facilities: At the end of the year, the city had 1164 various types of travel agencies, 93 star rated hotels (including 23 five-star hotels), and 115 A-level tourist attractions (including 3 5A level ones).

Sports and Health Industry

Health industry: In 2024, the added value of Hangzhou's health industry reached 161.2 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 2.8%.

Sports achievements: Hangzhou athletes won two gold medals at the 2024 Paris Olympics, bringing the total number of gold medals won by Hangzhou athletes at previous Olympic Games to 12. Throughout the year, Hangzhou athletes won a total of 62 international competition medals (including 44 gold medals) and 404 national competition medals (including 177 gold medals).

Sports facilities: 450 new sports and fitness facilities will be built around the public throughout the year, with 14680 national fitness activities and scientific fitness guidance held, and 60 public sports venues will be opened for the benefit of the people.

Transportation and Infrastructure

Subway passenger transport: In 2024, the subway passenger transport volume in Hangzhou reached 1.47 billion, a year-on-year increase of 6.2%. The fourth phase of the subway project has started construction, with a total operating distance of 516 kilometers for rail transit.

New energy vehicles: 3483 new (renovated) public charging stations for new energy vehicles were built throughout the year, further promoting green travel.

Ecological environment

Air quality: In 2024, the number of days with good air quality in the urban area of Hangzhou will reach 299, with a good rate of 81.7%. The average concentration of fine particulate matter (PM2.5) in the urban area is 30 micrograms per cubic meter.

Water quality and forests: The proportion of water quality above Class III in urban control sections remains at 100%, and it has been awarded the "Five Water Joint Treatment" Dayu Ding in the province for eight consecutive years. The forest coverage rate is 65.74%.
